Erin's Hair and Makeup
Both ZoomWorks owners worked with Erin and Bill for their wedding day. Shannah photographed the wedding and Marisu provided the styling for Erin. It was a cold, rainy day but Erin looked stunning.

As promised, here are some fun moments with Haley Cabe, an up and coming Athens author. We had a blast (thanks, Ashford Manor for the lovely backdrop), and as you can see, she's alot of fun to be with.

End of the Year Weddings
It's been a busy end of the year for me.....family, friends, weddings....spent the week of Christmas with a great group from California. I brought the new year in at Lake Chatuge in the north Georgia mountains with a delightful bride and groom and their family....but boy, it was cold. The bride really braved the cold during the editorial, and we got some lovely moments. Thanks everyone for a great year and I'm really looking forward to seeing all of you in 2009.... -Marisu

Jim Shearon Memorial Party
Marisu had the honor of taking some photographs at the Memorial Party for Jim Shearon, a local business owner and philanthropist. Marisu says: "He made a huge difference to so many animal rescue groups in the area, in addition to all the other things that he did for his local community in Watkinsville, Georgia. It was without a doubt the best party I've been to in years. There was laughter and tears, drama and comedy, high art and low humor...a perfect mix for a perfect night. Local vendors that knew and loved Jim provided fabulous food and drink, and the highlight for me was when beautiful paper lanterns fueled by the heat from tiny open flames inside were sent aloft by the guests into the dark night sky like stars gathered in celebration. They drifted away, over the house, until they were but specks in the inky landscape. A lovely ballad rung out for them to sail away on..........there wasn't a dry eye in the place. We all felt as though we had collectively been touched by something much larger than ourselves at that moment. I'll never forget it. Thank you, Dave and Mario and your family, for including us in your celebration of Jim's life. It was magic."

WEDDINGS
My fall and winter were wonderful and busy...traveling from the Southeast to the Southwest and Northwest for events. I'm just now having a moment to share some of the beautiful weddings I experienced. It was the personal touches in the weddings I was privileged to photograph that made each event so special. I loved how the colors of the season were used in flowers, and even in a rich red dress detail. Speaking of dresses, I saw more variety and personality in dresses this season, a trend I hope continues! Thanks so much to all my clients for sharing this time with me. - Shannah

TAHOE
I had the rare chance to travel to Tahoe this fall and while there took some time to go back to my first photography love...nature. What a peaceful and serene place, it really restored me. -Shannah

Portraits
Oh, how I love my portrait clients... Most of whom were originally wedding clients and have continued to share their lives with me. It so much fun to see the families grow, meet the new pets and continue to "write" a family history of images. As a mother of two boys who insist on growing at the speed of light and two dogs who are our faithful friends, I realize the precious nature of each moment. It's a honor and joy to capture this for so many special people. While there are too many to share all of them here, these are a few of my favorite moments from this fall and winter. -Shannah

REM
Living in Athens Georgia is great. The town has a great vibe, but every now and then there are those special moments that make you truly appreciate the special qualities of this place. November 25th was such a night. Fittingly, it was a celebration of the 25th anniversary of R.E.M.'s Murmur album and also the 25th anniversary of the local non-profit Community Connection (whom R.E.M. has supported from its' beginning) The event was a fundraiser featuring local Athens bands playing the songs off Murmur. It was a super night of great music--with past and present Athens coming together. -Shannah

Thanks
Thanks to all our fellow wedding professionals who've continued to come to us when they are in need of photography. It's our honor to create beautiful photos for their professional --and personal--use. A few of the wedding professionals we have worked with this year are Gardenia Floral Design, Classic City Chef, Natalie Bradley Events, Foundry Park Inn and Spa, Consultants Unlimited and .Ashford Manor. -ZoomWorks

Virginia and Kevin
I loved all the colors for this one, and the fact that the couple was so low key. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the weather cooperated, that the flowers by Gardenia Floral Design were amazing and Natalie of Natalie Bradley Events kept it all running smoothly and looking FAB! Plus, they were so very sweet together. He was SO smitten with her…great to see. -Marisu

Savannah
Took my father to Savannah for the first time and we had a blast. Didn't’t stay long but walked the squares, did a little shopping, had a wonderful meal upstairs on the river in the middle of the wharf area…..I’ll think of the name later. I've been to Savannah so many times and never saw this place. Crazy. Great food, wonderful view and then we walked the harbor and went aboard this crazy wooden sailing vessel that had like 25 people living and working on it. Good times…. - Marisu

Portraits
I have had such a rush of memories this year. My calendar was full of wonderful portraits (and a lot of laughs!) and then the cards starting coming in from those shoots. How great it is to see the work in print and being sent out to the world. Even my brides (you rock, Laura Cole) made holiday cards from their weddings...I just love it. Thanks everyone for your support and faith in my work. -Marisu

Michelle and Adam
These two were just hot…..I mean you could feel the vibe when you got anywhere near them. And photogenic...couldn’t take a bad picture of the two of them together. And on top of that, they were so very sweet and unassuming. Nice combo…….thanks for letting me share your day. -Marisu

Sharon Wong
Sharon, a mobile vet, has become a friend through this whole photography project, which is still ongoing. She came to me for website updates, and we’ve had a blast. She’s great with animals, and a diva in her own right....check out the jewelry...you have another vocation if the vet thing doesn’t work out! -Marisu

Tailgate Party
Well, how can you live anywhere near Athens and not experience a tailgate party? I managed to do just that for almost 14 years……..but a friend finally insisted that I attend theirs, and look what happened? I ended up getting out the old camera……couldn’t help myself. Too many great photo ops....go Dawgs! And the food was good, too!

Santa Paws
Once again my wonderful husband dressed up as Santa for the animal shelter fundraiser. This year he posed with all manner of dogs, cats, bunnies and even a giant tortoise………and managed not to get bit or scratched. No matter what, I get such a laugh out of this and the shelter benefits, so it’s a win win. If you or anyone you know is in the market to adopt, MOAS is the name of the shelter, and the web address is www.moaspets.org. Check it out……..lots of cool pets! -Marisu
Anna
Then there is Anna, my little friend and faithful model for anything I might come up with, crazy or not. She got married this year and I got lucky enough to shoot it. What a beautiful woman she is and so much fun. Oh, and did I mention that she has an AMAZING voice? If anyone needs a singer, she’s your gal. Truly remarkable that such a sound comes out of such a tiny person. -Marisu
Jacqueline and Nate
I think that as of this last event, I have been officially adopted into the Byrd family. I really love working with all of them……..they are beautiful, bright and really funny. And they know how to party……….the wedding of Jacqueline and Nate was so lovely. Rustic, elegant, with so many personal touches and great food……….and the party was SERIOUS and lasted long into the night. Thank goodness for shuttles, .no driving allowed at the end of that night. Best wishes to you both and thanks for the memories. - Marisu

October is my favorite month, don’t get me wrong. I’m the first one to throw on a costume for any reason, so Halloween is right up my alley, but goodness…it was summer just a minute ago.
I had fun with all my regular clients as well as some new ones during the summer months. Little girls being girls……wearing their favorite colors and fairy wings and being treated with sweets for being sweet….works every time. -Marisu

I shot a fabulous wedding at Barnsley Gardens that was really fun……we were able to spend the night before the wedding, have a terrific meal and enjoy a good nights sleep before joining the couple on their wedding day. I was with Traci early, doing hair and makeup…..she was so easy going it made the whole process that much more fun. Plus she had GREAT jewelry…..really glamorous. It was a fairly intimate affair, so it was like sharing the day with family. I felt like I knew them all by the end of the day. Thanks again for trusting me with your wedding day memories.... -Marisu

Lauren and Jacob are getting married in the early spring of next year, so we’ve begun the process of recording them as a couple. Too much fun…..they are huge Dawg (as in Georgia football for those that aren’t SEC savvy) fans, so red and black just had to play a part. Their chemistry jumps off the page……..the wedding is going to be a blast. -Marisu

A floral vendor that we work with regularly, Gardenia Floral Design, has ventured into the faux floral hairpiece arena. I had a client that was interested in having something for me to put in her hair for the reception She wanted a piece that when she took off her veil it was simple, but still in keeping with the style of her gown and her event. I spoke to the gals at Gardenia and……voila! Hair pieces like these are just a few of the designs (worn by Abbra, one of my recent brides, a good sport to pose for me), but I really like the versatility that it offers. Love, creative energy and can do attitude.... -Marisu

My assistant and I were in Los Angeles for a few days, checking out the Hollywood scene. Didn’t see many famous folks, but did get to do a Malibu Beach party………..the ocean is much bluer there…….wonder if they have it specially dyed? Good times were had by all, and then it was back to Florida to visit my 96 year old grandfather. He lives near the sea so we took a ride out and enjoyed an afternoon eating smoked mullet sushi (rocks!) and drinking in the scenery. I only hope I live as full a life as he has…..and still keep my sense of humor. He plays a mean game of cards, too. -Marisu

Wedding Details
"It’s all in the details…” that phrase really applies to weddings. I’m always amazed at the creativity of the couples, event designers, florists and other wedding professionals who contribute to the final vision. These photos are of just a few of the beautiful details that I really loved. I particularly like those details that have a real personal connection like the truffles from a family recipe, a grandmother’s pin, the guest book featuring engagement photos (we make these!) and the “blue” added to the bride’s shoes.

Yamaha Electric Piano Campaign
May 27, 2008

Yamaha Corporation out of California came to Athens to photograph another ad for a campaign that they were doing with college music professors. Pete Jutras, a professor at UGA, had been selected. We had had the pleasure of working with Pete before, so Yamaha decided to keep with his comfort level and use ZoomWorks. It was alot of fun.....it was super hot that day and poor Pete was in a suit, but we kept him powdered and hydrated and Alex Martinez (our photographer) made sure he looked really great in the shot. Steve, Yamaha's California rep, was a super laid back guy and that made it all the more enjoyable.

Tracy and Jim
May 6, 2008

Tracy and I had known each other for years. She called me up when she made the decision to get married out of the country to ask if I would shoot the event. I didn't hesitate...Dominican Republic, here we come! It was a fast and furious five days of sunshine, blue waters, great food and really, really good cigars. Tracy's guests were not only welcoming, but also very
creative. Instead of the typical clinking of the glass to elicit a kiss from the bride and groom, one of her guests took it upon himself to compile a book of love song lyrics. Each table had a copy and when they wanted the happy couple to kiss, they burst into song and the couple kissed every time the word love was sung. Needless to say this was highly entertaining. We were really glad that Tracy and Jim included us in their beautiful island love affair! - Marisu

Elan and Craig
April 26, 2008

I recently shot the coolest couple, Elan and Craig, at a ranch outside Athens. They are both horse riders/trainers and really good at what they do. From their cowboy engagement session to the wedding blowout, no detail was left out. The pale pink wedding cake was a huge hit, as were the party hats that came out during the reception! Fun time for everyone...cowboy up! - Marisu

Sumner and Jay
April 12, 2008

The best part about what I do is being there in the moment with two people when they announce to the world that they want to spend the rest of their lives together. It was a joy to be a part of this wedding. I personally know the bride and groom so it makes it even more special. I really loved some of their unique details, like have a bagpiper lead the entourage of wedding party and guests down the street to the reception. The décor- by Jeanie Evans Designs- was also gorgeous! - Shannah
