I used to think of myself as
a word person. I earned two degrees in journalism and never thought I'd
work in a visual medium. But one day necessity caused me to pick up a
camera, and I discovered that words and images have a similar mission
-- they both tell stories. My goal as a photographer is to capture images
that express the action and emotion of particular moments. Images that
tell the stories of people's lives.

I've always had a passion for black and white photography, photomontage and large installations. In fact, I was a process artist while working on my BFA in creative photography at the University of Florida.
What excites me now is visualizing and creating an image, whether I artistically help to direct a scene or capture the moment spontaneously as it unfolds. I love seeing the light, shape, movement and emotion of a situation and 'freezing' it, only to relive it again at another time. I use creativity and an artistic eye to transform what others may see as ordinary into extraordinary.

Photography captured my interest at a young age. When I entered high school, I worked my way into the photography editor position at the school newspaper. During college, I began working at a photographic lab where I feel I learned an invaluable amount through printing other individuals' work as well as my own. This time was also used for experimentation with different techniques and effects. Through this process, I was able to find an area of photography that I truly enjoy.
Alex Martinez Alex Martinez comes to us from New York City. His photography background includes experience with product for magazines and books as well as fashion in the Big Apple. His wedding coverage has appeared in the New York Times and People Magazine. With his great eye and international flair, Alex is a welcome addition to the Zoom Crew. |
